Phil Clayton's Yap Trip

Recently one of our members, Phil, managed to secure a secure a commission to travel to the remote island of Yap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yap) in the Federated States of Micronesia to carry out an inspection of a site for a new school. Being a keen underwater photographer and having just invested in a new housing and camera it was a chance of a lifetime to mix a little business an pleasure with visit some dive sites (http://www.qualitydivers.com/qd/english/yap_mantaray.htm) reputed to have manta rays in residence all year round. Not to mention 31 degree tropical water. Nice work if you can get it. Check out the site of the resident videographer Peter Schneider at the dive resort in Yap at: http://www.underwatercam.tv/peter_schneider.php

Getting to Yap involves around two days travelling from New Zealand, luckily this involved a stopover in Guam each way, allowing some more freediving and photography with some nice reef diving on the reef right out front of my hotel.
